Watch Our Story

We invite you to watch this short introductory video created by Dan Schell. It shares the heart of who we are at the Alano Club of Battle Creek—our mission, our impact, and why this community matters.
Grab a cup of coffee, press play, and see how together, we’re building hope.

Why the Battle Creek Alano Club Recovery Center Matters

The Battle Creek Community already gives generously to shelters and food programs—lifelines that address urgent needs. But once the meal is eaten and the bed is vacated, the underlying issue often remains: substance use disorder.

Without ongoing recovery support, people cycle back into homelessness, hunger, and crisis. The Alano Club of Battle Creek fills that gap. Open 365 days a year and free to the community, the Club offers immediate connection, daily recovery meetings, education, referrals, and sober social events. Last year alone, more than 25,000 visits were made to 3,120 recovery meetings and programs—evidence that recovery isn’t abstract here; it’s happening every day.

Recovery doesn’t just change one life—it strengthens families. When parents stabilize in recovery, children experience safer homes, better routines, and improved wellbeing. Over time, this breaks generational cycles of addiction, housing instability, and poverty. That’s a return on investment that multiplies across our community.

People often say the opposite of addiction is not sobriety—it’s connection.

The Alano Club is where connection happens:

  • Monthly Recovery Nights with dinner and speakers that inspire hope
  • Recovery Breakfasts that build community over a warm meal
  • Workshops & Trainings (e.g., opioid awareness & Naloxone training, QPR suicide-prevention, recovery messaging)
  • Sober activities & holiday gatherings that make belonging a year-round reality
  • Peer support from people living in long-term recovery—an approach proven to be as powerful as many formal treatments

Courts, recovery homes, housing programs, and partners already send people through our doors. But without prioritizing full participation in these offerings, individuals miss the very supports that make long-term recovery possible—wasting scarce resources and opportunity.

Since Battle Creek wants lasting solutions, we must invest in recovery support—not just temporary fixes. That’s why we’re building the Recovery Grounds Café: a welcoming social-enterprise space that deepens connection, creates recovery-friendly employment, and sustains the Club’s mission for the long term.

Invest in connection. Invest in families. Invest in recovery.

The Alano Club turns generosity into lasting change.

Recovery Grounds Cafe

Brewing Hope & Connection

The Alano Club of Battle Creek has been a safe haven for individuals and families impacted by addiction for more than 40 years. Open 365 days a year, the Club welcomes thousands through its doors annually for peer-led meetings, education, and connection. Last year alone, there were more than 25,000 visits to over 3,000 recovery programs and meetings—proof that recovery thrives when people have a place to belong.

The next step in this mission is Recovery Grounds Café — a social enterprise designed to build community, expand recovery support, and sustain the Alano Club’s impact for generations to come.

This initiative is rooted in three powerful goals:

  1. 🫱 Connection: A welcoming café space where people in recovery, families, and community members can gather, share, and support one another.

  2. 📚 Empowerment: Workshops and programs focused on financial literacy, life skills, and job readiness—addressing the real-world barriers to long-term recovery.

  3. 💼 Sustainability: A recovery-friendly business that creates meaningful employment opportunities while generating funds to sustain our mission.

Why this matters:
Shelters and food programs address urgent needs, but without ongoing recovery support, too many individuals cycle back into crisis. Recovery Grounds Café will help break that cycle, creating a space where hope is nurtured, families are strengthened, and recovery becomes a community investment—not just an individual struggle.

Your support makes this possible.
By investing in Recovery Grounds Café, you’re not just funding a project — you’re helping build a stronger, healthier Battle Creek.

👉 Invest in connection. Invest in recovery. Invest in hope.
